State historic sites rule 07 NCAC 04N .0102(b)(3): on historic-site property no one may, under any circumstances, use or carry a metal detector, probe, or similar remote-sensing instrument. Digging or otherwise disturbing the ground also needs a written permit from the Department (.0102(a)(2)). Next door, the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area beach is under the state-parks detector ban (07 NCAC 13B .0203).
