The rules
No town ban or permit for metal detecting (the Southern Shores code has no detector provision). Digging: no excessive digging that creates a dangerous condition or is left unattended without restoring the beach (Sec. 34-55(b)(3)). Dunes: no walking on dunes outside walkovers and no digging in the dune system (Sec. 34-55(c)). Personal items left on the beach 7 p.m.-6 a.m. are removed.
