The rules

No town ban or permit for metal detecting. Digging: no holes over 16 in. deep or 5 ft wide; shovels other than children's toy shovels prohibited on the beach strand; holes attended at all times (within 20 ft) and filled before leaving or by 7 p.m. (Sec. 38-38). Dunes: stay off ($100 fine). Beach equipment removed daily; keep 10+ ft from turtle nests and dune vegetation. Use the designated public access walkways; other areas are private property. Note: Sec. 38-37(15) bans disturbing any mineral or artifact in town parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities; it does not name the beach strand.
