Metal Detecting on North Carolina's Crystal Coast (Bogue Banks)
6 locations · 2 prohibited · 4 allowed
Rules last verified: · North Carolina statewide rules
Bogue Banks is town beach almost end to end, and the four towns — Emerald Isle, Indian Beach, Pine Knoll Shores and Atlantic Beach — don't ban detecting. Their rules are about holes: fill everything before you leave, and in Atlantic Beach don't go deeper than two feet. The two no-go zones are federal and state: Fort Macon State Park at the east end of the island, and Cape Lookout National Seashore across the inlet, where detectors are banned entirely.
