Pensacola to Panama City Beach: sugar-white quartz sand, huge tourist crowds, and miles of public beach where detecting is generally allowed without a permit. The big exception is Gulf Islands National Seashore, which is federal land and off-limits. The state parks along this coast (Henderson Beach, Grayton, Topsail, St. Andrews, St. Joseph Peninsula, St. George Island) are limited — detecting only in a zone the park manager designates, so call first. Dry sand above the wrack line after a busy weekend is the classic Panhandle hunt; wet salt sand needs a multi-frequency machine.
