The rules

Florida State Parks allow metal detecting only in the beach zone the park manager designates, between the toe of the dune and the high-water line; no detecting in submerged areas, and objects over 50 years old can't be kept. FL Admin Code 62D-2.013(2) bars digging, disturbing or removing sand, artifacts or other materials outside what the park allows. Call the ranger station before you go.

Permit: No permit; confirm the designated zone with the park manager
