The rules

Charlotte County Code Sec. 1-11-51 bans metal detectors in county parks and recreation facilities EXCEPT on sandy beaches, so detecting on the sand at Englewood Beach (Chadwick Park) is allowed. Detectors are banned on county environmentally sensitive lands without a special use permit (Sec. 3-5-390(m)), so stay off the dunes and out of the parking and grass areas. Sec. 1-11-53 prohibits excavations in county parks without written permission, so keep holes small and fill them.

Permit: Not required on the sandy beach; special use permit required anywhere else in county parks
