The rules
Lee County Code Sec. 20-28(k) bans metal detectors on athletic fields, in environmentally sensitive areas, and in areas that may pose a safety hazard unless the Parks Director authorizes it (fine $75 under Sec. 20-32). County beach parks are otherwise open to detecting, but stay off dunes and fill holes. Sec. 20-23(a) also bars digging or excavating in parks without a written permit.
Permit: Not required on open beach areas; Director authorization needed for athletic fields, environmentally sensitive areas or hazard areas
