The rules
SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy assumes an absolute prohibition unless the Park Manager gives prior approval and issues a signed permit specifying the area, dates and times, which must be carried on site (authority: S.C. Code 51-3-70). Detecting is confined to non-sensitive areas, and any historic or prehistoric artifact must be left in place and reported to staff. Santee State Park is not among the historic sites where the policy bans detecting outright.
