The rules
SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy requires prior Park Manager approval and a signed permit before detecting, restricts it to non-sensitive areas, and bars digging near buried utilities or in erosion-prone and landscaped ground (S.C. Code 51-3-70). Historic or prehistoric finds must stay in place and be reported. Poinsett is not on the policy's list of parks where detecting is banned outright.
