The rules
South Carolina's statewide Metal Detection Policy requires prior approval of the Park Manager before each use and a signed permit - specifying the area, dates and times - that must be in your possession while detecting. Myrtle Beach SP is not on the policy's prohibited historic-sites list, and detecting is generally confined to the beach; the CCC-built historic areas, dunes and sensitive habitats are off-limits. Any historic artifact is left in place and modern jewelry is turned over to the park.
