Litchfield Beach is unincorporated Georgetown County, so the county Beach Regulations (Ch. 5.5, Ord. 22-10) govern: metal detecting is not banned, but holes may be no deeper than two feet, must be filled and the area returned to natural state, and only children's toys or hand tools about 12 inches or less may be used to dig. No vehicles on the beach or dunes; beach access runs from one hour before sunrise to 8-10 pm depending on season.
