SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy assumes an absolute prohibition unless the Park Manager grants prior approval and a signed permit for specific non-sensitive areas, dates and times (S.C. Code 51-3-70). Historic or prehistoric artifacts must be left in place and reported to staff. Lake Wateree State Park is not among the historic sites where the policy bans detecting.
