No Isle of Palms ordinance bans metal detecting. The City's beach rules require you to fill any holes dug in the sand before leaving (large holes endanger sea turtles) and to use only the designated dune walkovers - trespassing on the dunes is prohibited by law. Stay off the sea oats and dunes (SC Beachfront Management Act).
