The rules
Under SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy, detecting requires prior approval of the Park Manager and a signed permit carried on you, with the manager specifying exactly where and when. Huntington Beach SP is not a prohibited historic site, so beach detecting is possible by arrangement, but the dunes, the Atalaya historic structure and the marsh/wildlife habitats are off-limits. Historic finds stay in place; modern jewelry is turned in.
