Greenville County Rec allows recreational metal detecting without a permit but bans it at all historic sites, on manicured lawn and sport-turf areas, and within 10 feet of walking trails, landscape beds, or construction sites. Dig only with hand tools (blade under 6 inches), fill all holes immediately, cut no vegetation, and report any item of historical significance to Greenville County Rec.
