The rules
SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy requires prior approval of the Park Manager and a signed permit (specifying the area, dates and times) before each use, with detecting confined to non-sensitive areas and dunes absolutely off-limits. The park's Spanish Mount Shell Mound is on the policy's prohibited list, and any historic or prehistoric artifacts must be left in place and reported.
