The rules
SC State Parks' Metal Detection Policy treats detecting as prohibited unless the Park Manager grants prior approval and issues a signed permit for specific non-sensitive areas, dates and times (S.C. Code 51-3-70). Historic or prehistoric finds must be left in place and reported; modern lost items are turned over to the park. Dreher Island is not on the policy's list of banned historic sites.
