Metal detectors are prohibited on all NPS land under 36 CFR 2.1(a)(7), and disturbing or removing any historic object is a federal offense. Cowpens preserves the January 1781 battleground where Daniel Morgan's double-envelopment beat Tarleton, and the whole site is archaeologically protected.
