The rules
No metal-detector ban, but Sarasota County Code Sec. 90-33(16) prohibits digging in or removing sand, soil, fossils or artifacts on county beaches (sand sculpting and picking up shells/shark teeth are exempt) — so recovery holes are the issue. Call Parks before digging; never remove cultural/historic resources.
Permit: Not required
